Day of Service
On Tuesday, October 9th, we'll be gathering confirmed ComNet18 attendees who can offer their time to give back to the Bay Area. We're partnering with some incredible organizations, and we'd love to have you join us.
Please sign up for the activity you'd like to participate in. Once you've confirmed your attendance, Emma will be in contact with you to share the details of the day. If you have any questions, you can also email her at email@example.com.

San Francisco Aids Foundation
Description: Join us in assembling supplies that promote health and reduce risk for HIV.
SAS (Syringe Access Services) is a program that helps prevent the spread of HIV, hepatitis C and other infections by distributing harm reduction supplies to people who use substances. Through a network of street-based access sites, and one storefront location in the Tenderloin/SOMA neighborhood, staff give out sterile, new supplies that help individuals be safer, promote community health and dramatically reduce rates of new HIV and HepC infections. We abide by a harm reduction philosophy—meaning, we provide them the supplies they need to prevent disease transmission without judgement or stigma, an evidence based strategy that is highly effective at promoting positive change.
Volunteer activities are determined by our greatest need at the time of service. If you’re working on a project for SAS, you might be:
Putting cotton pellets or Vitamin C into small plastic bags,
Rolling and cutting brillo pads.
Putting together safety kits.
Putting together overdose prevention kits.
Time: 10:00am - 1:00pm PT
Capacity: 50 volunteers
National muffin day
Description: National “Give” Muffin Day - An Afternoon of Baking and Giving: Bake muffins with the founders. Engage in conversation with a San Francisco nonprofit leader working with people experiencing homelessness. Distribute muffins to those who are hungry.
National Muffin Day (NMD) is a philanthropic day of baking and giving muffins to those who are experiencing homelessness and hunger. Co-founded by Jacob “Muffin Man” Kaufman and Julia Levy (ComNet member), it began with a blog post and a Facebook event four years ago. Since then, 500 friends, family members, and strangers have baked and given away 6,000 muffins in over twenty-five cities, resulting in tens of thousands of dollars donated to causes helping the homeless.
National “Give” Muffin Day is celebrated on the last Sunday in January. Learn more about its impact on CNN, ABC, CBS’ Inside Edition, Pickler and Ben and their webpage, National Muffin Day.
